The original 110-seat restaurant, David Burke Townhouse (formerly
davidburke & donatella) has been given a facelift. The new space maintains an elegant, whimsical
feel, but a larger bar with a striking salt wall, new fabrics,
carpet and wall coverings throughout the space will demonstrate
a truer reflection of Burke’s artistic vision. To ensure
this, he designed each element of the renovations personally
and was highly involved in the aesthetic changes. The bar,
the first of a series of three jewel box rooms, is being expanded
to allow for more comfort and a better flow of traffic. Renovations
also include adding booths, a backlit salt wall and a playful “dungeon
door,” which resembles a classic castle door with skeleton
keys next to it. The sleek white gloss of the bar gives
way to two dining rooms where a feeling of warmth and understated
glamour are emphasized with an array of hand-blown glass balloons
and a stunning mahogany wine display that can hold up to 304
bottles. Fellow chef and friend, Michael Ayoub, has again created
hand-blown signature glass designs for another one of Chef
Burke’s restaurants.
Not one to lose his humor, David Burke's Townhouse has made indirect, artistic
reference to the restaurant game with a collection of drawings
from a fantastical card deck called The Key to the Kingdom
created by Tony Meeuwissen. Specially commissioned lithographs
from this transformational deck line the walls and grace the
menus.
